Anthropic Merges Claude Cowork and Chat into One Unified Claude

On September 17, Anthropic officially announced merging Claude Cowork and regular chat into one unified Claude: users no longer need to decide "where a task should go" — in the same conversation they can casually ask a question, then directly hand off a report or large task, retaining existing context, skills, and connectors. According to engineer Felix Rieseberg, the merged product philosophy is "fewer choices," motivated by user feedback — what annoyed people most was deciding where tasks go, and Cowork and chat contexts didn't interoperate.
