Anthropic merges Cowork into Claude, launches Claude Docs, Slides and in-chat Design
minchoi · x · 2026-09-17
Anthropic announced that Claude Cowork and chat are merging into a single Claude: instead of choosing where a task belongs, users can hand over anything from a quick question to a deadline report, and Claude keeps working even after the laptop is closed. Rolling out to Pro and Max plans over the next few weeks.
Also launching in beta on paid plans (Enterprise admins opt in):
- Claude Docs — co-write and edit documents in-conversation;
- Claude Slides — generate presentations, present directly or export to PowerPoint/PDF;
- Claude Design — visual design now works inside chats, standalone version unchanged.
The motivation: users' biggest frustration was deciding where a task belonged and losing context between Cowork and Design. Claude now figures out what a task needs, making Cowork/Design capabilities available from any conversation with existing context, skills and connectors.
