Anthropic Merges Claude Cowork With Chat, Launches Docs, Slides and Design Tools
dotey · x · 2026-09-17
Anthropic has merged Claude's Cowork background-task mode with regular chat into a single entry point, rolling out gradually to Pro and Max users starting today.
- Previously Claude split between quick chat and Cowork for long-running tasks (reports, research, data work), forcing users to guess where a task belonged, with no shared context. Now Claude decides what capabilities a task needs on its own.
- Three content-creation tools ship alongside: Claude Docs (document collaboration), Claude Slides, and Claude Design (previously standalone, now embedded in chat). All share the same conversation context, exportable to PowerPoint/PDF, with support for scheduled tasks like auto-writing a weekly report every Monday.
- The tools are in beta for paid users; enterprise rollout is admin-controlled with 30 days' notice, and Team and free users will follow. Existing Cowork conversations and connectors are unaffected.
