Anthropic merges Cowork into Claude chat: agents keep working in cloud after laptop closes
felixrieseberg · x · 2026-09-17
Anthropic engineer Felix Rieseberg announced that Claude Cowork and chat are merging into one Claude: users can fire off quick questions and turn to serious work in the same conversation. When your computer is open, Claude can use your local files and apps — close it, and Claude keeps working in its own cloud computer.
- Rolling out to Pro and Max plans over the next few weeks
- New Claude Docs and Claude Slides launch in beta on paid plans (Enterprise admins control rollout), and Claude Design now works inside conversations — co-write docs, draft decks, present directly, or export to PowerPoint/PDF
- Existing Cowork chats, projects, artifacts, connectors and skills carry over with nothing to migrate
- Philosophy: stop forcing users to choose where a task belongs; Claude figures out what it needs
