Anthropic explains why Cowork and chat are now one Claude: 'stop making users choose'
felixrieseberg · x · 2026-09-17
Anthropic published a blog post detailing the merger of Claude Cowork and chat, with engineer Felix Rieseberg adding product philosophy and migration details.
- Motivation: the most frustrating part for users was deciding where a task belonged, with no context carrying over; now any conversation can use Cowork and Design capabilities with existing context, skills, and connectors
- Claude Docs and Claude Slides launch in beta on paid plans; Claude Design now works in-conversation, with direct editing, presenting, and PowerPoint/PDF export
- Zero migration for existing Cowork users: chats, projects, artifacts, connectors and skills all carry over
- Rieseberg believes in making tools simpler while exposing users to more magic, and may write a longer post on the philosophy
