Claude Code Opens Mods: Rewrite Behavior and UI in a Few Lines of TypeScript
Anthropic officially announced the Mods capability for Claude Code on October 2. Mods are distributed as plugins and installed alongside them. Multiple accounts, including the official Claude Code account and the Claude Devs channel, announced the news simultaneously.

Why it matters
- Mods elevate Claude Code's customizability from config-level hooks to rewriting prompts and replacing built-in features, letting third-party developers extend the product without waiting on the official roadmap
- Community mods like next-steps show the ecosystem already has practical, usable output, with the plugin marketplace serving as the distribution channel
