OpenAI Launches WebMCP Open Standard with $35K Hackathon

On August 26, OpenAI launched WebMCP, an experimental open standard that lets web apps expose tools directly on the page for agents to use, along with a demo page. Eric Provencher of the developer experience team demoed WebMCP support in Codex, showing an agent and a human collaborating on 3D modeling in Codex Modeling Studio.
