OpenAI Introduces WebMCP for Browser-Based Agent-Human Collaboration

OpenAI released a blog post detailing WebMCP, a new protocol designed for agent-human collaboration directly within the browser UI (e.g., co-editing notebook cells), distinct from standard MCPs or APIs. The post discusses the tradeoffs of this approach. Additionally, they open-sourced a new notebook environment compatible with WebMCP. This notebook prioritizes bringing your own coding agent and treating files as Markdown, making it ideal for curating runbooks or high-quality foundation model evaluation examples where interactive tinkering with long-running jobs is required.
