MBZUAI open-sources 198 simulation-ready chemistry lab instruments for NVIDIA Isaac Lab

MBZUAI released ChemLab-Assets (Release 1.2), an open dataset of 198 simulation-ready chemistry lab instruments built from a survey of 200 instruments used in university teaching and research — designed for robots that operate lab equipment, not just look at it.
Each asset includes geometry (GLB, URDF with collision proxies, per-part OBJ meshes, Blender source), an executable behavior model (e.g., fume-hood sash travels 673mm stopping at 457mm; moving a balance's draft shield restarts stability checks), and an asset.contract.json declaring components, joints, state slots with units and visibility, JSON-Schema capabilities, and which quantities are hidden ground truth for evaluation.
All 198 instruments are converted to USD and stepped in NVIDIA Isaac Lab via the Matterix framework, with joints driven from runtime state; panel buttons pressed in-scene reach the runtime. Code and dataset are open.
