World of Warcraft taps AheadForm to bring Skyborne Elf to life as bionic robot

World of Warcraft partnered with China's AheadForm to bring the Skyborne Elf character into the real world: pale blue hair, pointed ears, lifelike skin, gaze tracking and subtle facial expressions.
AheadForm, founded by Yuhang Hu, trains robots to learn facial movements via self-supervised learning, linking motor actions, speech and human expressions. One study showed a bionic robot responding to a human smile about 839 milliseconds before it appeared. The goal is bionic humanoids that look and interact more like us.
