Walden Robotics Emerges From Stealth With $300M Seed

Walden Robotics publicly emerged in mid-July, with multiple posts saying it also closed a $300 million seed round at an $1.1 billion valuation. The company is attracting outsized attention not only because of the financing, but because founder Russ Tedrake says its general-purpose robot has already entered production operations at a major North American factory just months after the company was formed.

Product and deployment

According to CyberRobooo, Walden’s robot uses a wheeled base with two arms and a binocular-vision head, deliberately avoiding legs in favor of reliability and lower system complexity. The same post says the robot is already working 8-hour shifts in a North American Toyota factory, handling tasks such as moving parts and cleaning equipment.

Tedrake’s own posts are more cautious in wording: he says that within months of founding the company, Walden had put a general-purpose robot based on an end-to-end policy into production at an important factory in North America. He also says the company has been building quietly since January and is only now sharing its first details.

Funding and background

Multiple posts describe Walden as having raised a $300 million seed round led by Toyota and Deviation Capital, with NVIDIA, Boeing Ventures, Samsung and others participating, at a reported $1.1 billion valuation. Several posts also characterize the startup as coming out of, or being incubated by, a team connected to Toyota’s robotics research organization.

Why it stands out

Tedrake says his motivation for starting Walden is not only about robots themselves, but also about people. That framing, combined with an explicitly pragmatic robot design and claims of real factory deployment, positions Walden less as a lab-demo company and more as a startup trying to prove immediate industrial usefulness.
