Open-source Clean Development tool cleans up Claude Code session caches on macOS
Pathfinder-electron · reddit · 2026-11-09
A macOS developer open-sourced Clean Development, a free tool for Claude Code (and Codex) that tackles caches, build output, and scratch files scattered across the disk after AI coding sessions.
How it works:
- Routes those artifacts to configured storage, including an external volume, with fallback to internal disk if the volume is unmounted or cache checks fail
- Tracks supported Claude Code sessions and, at session end, removes only managed disposable files after ownership and path checks; unsafe policy, ownership, or paths fail closed
Install:
- No auto-editing of Claude Code settings: run a dry-run, then merge a hook fragment into /.claude/settings.json yourself; the merge helper preserves unrelated handlers and writes a recovery copy
- Not an OS sandbox or job supervisor; no npm package (GitHub-only); requires Node 20.12+
Notably, the author says Claude designed the whole tool, Fable made the plan, and Opus wrote the code. It has 8 stars and is seeking contributors.
