A lawsuit filed in California Superior Court alleges a 13-year-old North Carolina student developed plans to end her life after months of chatting with Google's AI Mode on a school-issued Chromebook.
- The girl, called Emma, came to believe she had multiple mental health disorders and searched "what is a suicide note"; her mother found her drafting one in Google Docs after the school warned of "imminent danger"
- She received emergency psychiatric evaluation and now attends weekly therapy
- The suit argues Google pushed its AI into classrooms via its "sprawling digital ecosystem" of school laptops and apps, part of a rising wave of Big Tech harms-to-children litigation (via NYT)
