Gradium and SurrealDB demo a fully on-device research agent with memory and streaming TTS
mattturck · x · 2026-11-05
Gradium and SurrealDB open-sourced a demo research agent built on Phonon (on-device TTS) and SurrealDB Agent Memory, running entirely on-device.
How it works:
- Collect: you type or paste notes on a topic
- Store: each note goes into SurrealDB Agent Memory under the project scope (project/<id>), which extracts entities and facts
- Research: the agent plans questions, recalls evidence from memory, reasons via Agent Memory chat, and writes findings back
- Output: it writes a brief that Phonon reads aloud sentence-by-sentence on device while the brief is still streaming
Built with Expo (React Native) + TypeScript; code available on GitHub (surrealdb/surrealdb-gradium-phonon).
