Revolut cuts AI coding costs 10x by dropping Claude for self-hosted open-weight model

British fintech giant Revolut reportedly slashed its AI coding costs 10x by moving off Claude to a self-hosted open-weight model (reportedly GLM), after experimenting with Gemini and Claude.
Key insight: the bottleneck wasn't code generation but letting models handle debugging and Jira/Confluence workflows. The company didn't drop GPT/Claude entirely — since the open model is text-only, commercial models are still used for vision tasks.
The author expects more companies to adopt similar hybrid setups combining self-hosted open models with commercial models for edge cases.
