As new code cost nears zero, engineers stop collaborating and rebuild the same systems
alex_frantic · x · 2026-11-04
alexfrantic observes that the cost of writing new code is approaching zero: a single engineer can now replicate a complex system in days, removing the incentive to collaborate and reuse shared components. Coordination was expensive (alignment, planning, interruptions), so less of it is good — but the result is fifteen duplicate implementations that are even costlier to integrate than before.
