Dream-1 zero-shot robot test: 100 public episodes show real skills but poor instruction following
paigeinsf · x · 2026-11-03
An independent evaluation of Dream Labs' robot model Dream-1 tackles zero-shot — one of the hardest tests a robot model can face. With no task-specific training, Dream-1 shows real grasping, carrying, and placing skills on a two-armed robot.
- Standout: self-correction — it puts a white pen in the toy-car bin, then takes it back out and moves it to the correct pen bin
- Weak spot is instruction following: told to align cubes "without picking up any cube, using the clear ruler," it lifts and carries one; in pepper sorting, only 12/30 went to the instructed bin and 1 to a wrong one, most were never placed
- Strong location sensitivity: peppers starting near the table center succeeded 64% (9/14) vs 19% (3/16) from the edges; same pattern on peg-board stacking
- 100 real-robot episodes across 10 tasks, all publicly released
