Memnest: open-source local MCP memory server shared by Claude Code, Codex and Cursor
Agitated_Chair_4977 · reddit · 2026-10-31
A developer open-sourced Memnest, a Rust MCP memory server (stdio and Streamable HTTP at 127.0.0.1:3111/mcp) that gives coding agents persistent, shared memory across sessions.
Highlights:
- Records conversation text from Claude Code, Codex and pi, plus explicitly saved decisions; all clients share one memory store.
- No generative model in the loop: retrieval uses BM25 plus a local multilingual embedding model and returns record IDs pointing to original text — no API key, no token cost.
- Five tools: search, get, remember, correct, delete; data in local SQLite, credentials in a separate encrypted vault.
- One-line install on Linux/Apple Silicon macOS; setup auto-configures Claude Code, Codex and Cursor with backups. First search downloads a 1.1 GB embedding model.
