Marketer's starter memo: write like you talk, use ChatGPT voice mode to fix grammar

Marketing KOL sahilypatel shares the memo he sends to every new marketer, built on David Ogilvy's 1982 writing rules. His favorite is #2: write the way you talk, naturally. Beginners often assume whatever ChatGPT generates is good — his test: would you actually say this out loud? If not, rewrite it.

His practical tip: if writing everything yourself is a struggle, open voice mode, say what you want to say, and ask ChatGPT to fix your grammar.

The attached image is Ogilvy's September 7, 1982 ten-point memo: read the Roman-Raphaelson book three times; use short words, sentences, paragraphs; never use jargon like "reconceptualize"; never write more than two pages; check quotations; never send a memo the day you write it — read it aloud the next morning and edit; have a colleague improve important pieces; be crystal clear on what you want the recipient to do; if you want action, go tell the guy.
