Dev builds a cozy Japanese-learning village game entirely with Claude Opus
thetinytrex · reddit · 2026-10-25
A developer built a cozy village game to make Japanese self-study more fun: you purify corrupted yokai, fulfill their requests, cook, fish, and restore your family's shrine, inspired by Natsume Yujincho. Your real-world Japanese progress mirrors in-game as yokai move in and become friends.
The whole game was built with Opus 5.5 in Godot (Suno for BGM), with a spaced-repetition system like Anki resurfacing stuck vocabulary; translations were done by the model too. Originally just for personal use, positive feedback has the author considering a free itch.io release with coffee donations.
