OpenTac: an open ecosystem for custom robot tactile skins sensing normal and shear forces
mangahomanga · x · 2026-10-22
mangahomanga unveiled OpenTac, an open ecosystem for building custom tactile skins that sense both normal and shear forces, so a robot's shape no longer limits its sense of touch.
Robotics researchers (e.g. XuZhengtong) amplified it, arguing whole-body tactile sensing across the entire hand will be a key enabler for next-generation manipulation and physical interaction. The project is open source, with a thread of details.
