Robot arm Podrick learns to load utensils by distilling lessons from its own failed runs

Shared by YC: in part 2 of a dinner-party training series, the robot arm Podrick—controlled by an agent called Astra—places multiple utensils upright into a holder.
The key is an agent harness that lets Astra learn from previous runs. Over time it improved significantly and distilled transferable grasping lessons: a flat fork needs nearly vertical fingers to grasp; thin utensils may require grabbing close to tabletop height; a tilted wrist can't descend at long reach, so approaching above the container at a lower height before tilting makes placement reachable.
