DeepMind's four Gemini agents beat Minecraft in 27 hours, writing 2,783 programs and dying 605 times

According to Tom's Hardware, Google DeepMind claims four Gemini-powered AI agents beat Minecraft in 27 hours by writing 2,783 programs of their own. The run was messy: the AI team died 605 times on Easy difficulty and racked up an estimated $520 in token costs.
The result highlights how LLM agents tackle long-horizon open-world tasks — building a self-written skill/program library rather than relying purely on in-context reasoning — while the cost and death count illustrate current agents' efficiency limits.
