Cloudflare and VoidZero back tsrs, a Rust port of TypeScript that's 8x faster with 70% less memory

Cloudflare and VoidZero are working with Max Schwenk of Owner.com on tsrs, a Rust port of the TypeScript compiler, incubated in the Oxc toolchain in close collaboration with the TypeScript team. They explicitly stress this is not a fork—the TypeScript team keeps full control of language design.
Key points:
- Performance: with the same type check workers, tsrs is up to 8x faster and uses 70% less memory than TypeScript 7.0; TypeScript 7.1 beta itself is up to 2.5x faster than 7.0, with some optimizations upstreamed from tsrs.
- Why Rust: Go's tsc is already 10x faster, but Rust compiles cleanly to WebAssembly without dragging along a GC, making it a much better Wasm fit. That enables full dev environments in the browser, Cloudflare Workers, and embedded devices—and end-to-end sandboxed toolchains for agents.
- Maintenance: merging tsc-rs (with Theo Browne) into tsrs with full feature support including LSP; applying the Vinext model where agents review upstream diffs each morning and regenerate compatibility matrices nightly, automatically reproducing gaps and porting fixes. Perf wins get contributed back to the Go codebase.
- Motivation: frontier AI models can now do large-scale language ports almost independently in days; a wave of Rust/C++ TypeScript ports shows real demand for faster tooling.
- Try it: npm install tsrs && npx tsrs.
