Cloudflare adopts tsrs, a Rust port of TypeScript that is 8x faster with 70% less memory

Cloudflare announced it is taking ownership of tsrs, a Rust rewrite of the TypeScript compiler, developed with VoidZero and Max Schwenk of Owner.com and incubated within the Oxc JavaScript toolchain.
Key facts:
- Performance: with the same number of type check workers, tsrs is up to 8x faster and uses 70% less memory than TypeScript 7.0.
- Not a fork: the team works in close collaboration with the TypeScript team, which retains full control over language design to avoid divergence and incompatibility.
- Upstream wins: some optimizations were upstreamed, so TypeScript 7.1 beta is already 2.5x faster than 7.0.
The goal is cutting type-checking wait times and enabling full dev environments, including in the browser.
