Switching from Codex to Claude: better output quality, but Claude refuses more
Fancy-Communication6 · reddit · 2026-10-16
A user who moved from heavy Codex use to Claude compares the two:
- Strength: Opus (5.5) one-shots are closer to perfect, both aesthetically and in insight.
- Weakness: Claude says no noticeably more often and offers no workaround — refusing to edit a Google Doc without the connector set up (suggesting copy/paste instead), and declining to take over computer use for Google Cloud settings as "too personal", even refusing to screenshot Safari to see where the user was stuck.
- Verdict: GPT models remain scrappier and more helpful, but Opus 5.5 on high wins on output quality.
