Ofir Press (Princeton NLP) tweeted that whatever OpenAI just did to math is hard to describe, but that same moment will hit coding in 6-18 months, and he has no idea what it will look like. Clarifying after misunderstanding, he said he knows AI coding is already amazing — but it hasn't reached the "Navier-Stokes level" yet. That would mean agents rewriting ffmpeg or sqlite to be 5x faster with 2x less memory.
