Edinburgh Spinout Singular Photonics Launches Litavis, a SPAD Sensor That Processes Photons In-Pixel

Singular Photonics, a small Edinburgh spinout, launched Litavis, a 3.5×3.5mm SPAD sensor that does photon processing inside the pixel array. It simultaneously outputs 256×256 photon-counting intensity, 64×64 time-stamped photon events, picosecond-scale timing, in-pixel histograms, programmable time gates, and is fully software-configurable. Scobleizer argues the architecture — computing at the pixel instead of streaming dumb measurements to expensive compute — is highly relevant to small robots, drones, and wearables.
