In February 2025, HP bought Humane for $116M and shut down every $699 AI Pin just 10 days later. The device marketed as a phone replacement went dead, all customer data was permanently deleted, and most owners received nothing back.
It remains the canonical cautionary tale for cloud-dependent AI hardware: when the company dies, the device dies with it.
