In December 2024, Embodied abruptly shut down after a funding round fell through. Moxie, its $800 AI companion robot for children, depended on company servers to talk — so the robots all went silent at once.
No refunds were offered, and parents had to explain to their kids why their robot friend was dying: another cautionary tale of cloud-dependent hardware.
