Bayesian Health wins the first FDA clearance for continuous sepsis monitoring

Bayesian Health’s AI system watches patient vitals and lab data in real time to detect sepsis early. The post says the company’s system became the first AI ever cleared by the FDA for continuous sepsis monitoring in May.

The thread also argues that the key challenge was not only detection accuracy, but clinician trust. Earlier sepsis alert systems were often so unreliable that doctors ignored them. In the five-hospital study behind the clearance, 89% of Bayesian’s alerts were opened and reviewed by a clinician, and roughly one in three of those was confirmed as sepsis.

The broader point is that adoption depended on building a system clinicians would actually use, not just a model with a good paper result. Bayesian also partnered with Epic and Cerner rather than selling hospital by hospital forever.
