AgentMail Launches AgentID, a Sign-in Solution for AI Agents
AgentMail officially launched AgentID on October 7, positioning it as "Sign in with Google for AI Agents" — giving every agent its own dedicated email identity so it can register and log into third-party apps as itself rather than as its owner, while apps can still trace back to the human owner behind it. Millions of agents were already using AgentMail, and AgentID fills in the identity and login piece on top of that.
Confirmed
- Each agent gets a dedicated AgentMail email identity to independently register and log in, and apps can verify the agent's identity and learn who its real owner is.
- Standard OpenID Connect support is provided for developers, making it easy for third-party apps to integrate.
- @prasenx also demonstrated a use case in the launch post involving letting Claude run autonomously for extended periods.
Why it matters
- @Shruti0810 noted that letting agents directly share their owner's login credentials poses security and permission-control risks, and AgentID offers an alternative with isolated identities.
- As autonomous agents take on broader tasks, "how apps identify and authorize agents" will become infrastructure-level needs, and AgentID is an early standardization attempt in this direction.
