Claude Shared Chats Indexed by Search Engines Expose User Privacy
Claude's "share conversation" feature has recently exposed severe privacy risks. Numerous publicly shared conversations, originally restricted to "anyone with the link," have been indexed by search engines like Google and Brave Search. By using simple search operators, users can easily browse others' chat histories, and this issue remains unresolved.
Confirmed
Multiple users (such as @void1 and @ImaginaryRea1ity) confirmed that entering the `site:claude.ai/share` query into search engines easily retrieves a massive number of indexed Claude shared chat pages. The exposed conversations contain highly sensitive information. According to @SumitGup and @prasenx, the leaked data includes API key, login credentials, crypto wallets, resumes, home addresses, phone numbers, internal corporate project documents, and even Social Security Numbers (SSN).
Unconfirmed
There is currently no official statement explaining exactly why these shareable links, which should possess some degree of obscurity, were crawled and indexed by search engines on such a large scale. Whether this is due to a system mechanism flaw or user-side configuration remains under investigation.
Why It Matters
This incident directly strikes at the security baseline of AI tool usage. Many users habitually process sensitive personal and business data during conversations. Having share links indexed by search engines means the risk of privacy leaks has expanded from "targeted leakage" to "publicly searchable." According to @npinto, although Google has fixed the specific exposed search results, other search engines like Brave Search can still find the content. This indicates that privacy hazards are not entirely eliminated, and users must remain highly vigilant when sharing conversations.
