lattedit: free local-first LaTeX editor in the browser with a JSON API for agents
cneuralnetwork · x · 2026-11-09
lattedit is a free, fast, local-first LaTeX editor that runs in the browser, showing source and compiled PDF side by side. It supports pdfLaTeX, XeLaTeX, LuaLaTeX, BibTeX/Biber, syntax highlighting, command completion, structured compile logs and an accessible PDF preview. Projects stay in the browser by default, export as plain ZIPs, and Overleaf ZIPs can be imported. Compilation runs in isolated short-lived workspaces with safe auxiliary state reuse; exact repeated builds skip the TeX engine. No account needed for the editor or the JSON compile API — which is explicitly designed for software agents to create papers, resumes, reports and decks.
