A curated list of 13 free open-source repos for building a "second brain" that agents can actually use, organized in three stages:
- Capture: obsidian-clipper (official Obsidian web clipper, saves pages as Markdown), markitdown (converts PDF/Word/PPT/Excel/audio to Markdown), yt-dlp (extract subtitles without downloading), paperless-ngx (OCR + full-text search for scans)
- Structure: obsidian-dataview (query your vault as a database), obsidian-git (version history and auto backup)
- Search: qmd (local search combining keywords, vectors, and re-ranking)
The core idea: give agents a persistent, fully searchable local knowledge base so they never start from scratch.
