Anthropic uses Claude to map first 3D structure of bacterial vault particles

Anthropic's biology team worked with Claude to map the first 3D structure of a vault particle assembled from bacterial proteins.
- Vault particles, discovered in 1986, are barrel-shaped structures among the largest proteins in our cells, but their function remains unknown
- Until now vaults were only known in cells of complex organisms; Anthropic showed bacterial proteins (and infecting viruses) can also assemble into vaults
- The findings may bring researchers closer to solving the mystery of what vaults actually do
