XState v6 beta lands: leaner API, stronger types, durable execution, built for AI agents
DavidKPiano · x · 2026-11-07
David Khourshid released the first beta of XState v6, the open-source state machine/statechart and actor-model library with 30k+ stars and 8M+ weekly downloads.
- Reduced API surface: transitions are just functions
- Much stronger types; experimental durable execution
- New CLI, visualizer, and editor tooling
- Explicitly designed for humans and AI agents: agents write state machines well thanks to XState's decade of docs, examples, and stable concepts dating to Harel's 1987 statecharts paper
Install with npm i xstate@beta; core API considered stable.
