"Software factory" is mostly marketing: heterogeneity makes drop-in solutions fail
vikvang1 · x · 2026-11-06
dexhorthy argues the term "software factory" is being semantically diffused by hype, though the pre-AI NATO/DoD concept remains a useful mental model. The most important parts — stacks, linters, tests, previews — are too heterogeneous to solve with a general product, which is why vendors feel like a dupe. The best products are mix-and-match building blocks, not drop-in solutions; invest tokens where things are most deterministic.
