Thinking Machines Lab introduces Inkling 2 Small, its second-generation model: a 594B-total / 17B-active MoE with image input and variable effort, trained with 9 days of RL on 3T tokens.
- Scores 31 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index, far above its first generation, with gains in agentic coding, vision, knowledge work, and reasoning.
- Demos include a from-scratch Three.js city simulator and a Python PC emulator that boots a real Linux kernel.
- Initially closed-weight via Tinker; full weights to be released under Apache 2.0 next week after safety testing and red-teaming.
- Benchmarks show it trading wins with GLM-5.3-Flash, DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash-1017, and Kimi K3 on coding/autoresearch evals; the team says it's "approaching frontier."
