RoboColosseum tests 5 VLA policies across 4 embodiments; environment diversity is the new bottleneck
DJiafei · x · 2026-11-06
Robotics is repeating AI's benchmark problem: models look great in controlled setups but fall apart elsewhere. This week RoboColosseum tested 5 VLA policies and 3 frontier agents across 4 robot embodiments in distributed real-world environments.
The argument: the next scarce resource may not be training data but environment diversity — different buildings, layouts, lighting, obstacles. A robot that only sees curated labs learns the lab; one tested across thousands of real places has a better chance of learning the world.
The post also promotes vangrid, which runs a distributed smartphone network collecting spatial ground truth at scale.
