Google's Antigravity routes all tool calls via MCP through Substrate actors, new open-source env repo
rakyll · x · 2026-11-06
rakyll (Google Antigravity team) shares architecture details: every Antigravity instance is configured to use an MCP server; when a tool call is needed, a Substrate actor wakes up, executes it, and is suspended once the turn ends.
The Agent Substrate MCP server runs fs operations and bash commands directly on the actor, with auto-resumption and suspension after each turn — the team uses Antigravity CLI with the MCP server to run everything without code changes. The open-source env repo (Apache-2.0, 71 stars, alpha) provides an abstraction for isolated, stateful execution environments: each is a Substrate actor in a container, with Substrate handling snapshotting, scheduling, multiplexing many idle environments onto a small worker pool, and routing.
