Meta's public time service adds NTS (RFC 8915), ending 40 years of blind trust in NTP
Meta_Engineers · x · 2026-11-06
Meta's public time service now speaks NTS (Network Time Security, RFC 8915). Since 1985 computers have asked the network for the time and simply trusted the answer; NTS authenticates every packet so devices can verify the time really came from Meta and wasn't modified in transit. The service is free, public and open source, with a full write-up on the Meta Engineering Blog.
