Claude Code subagent status updates now use Haiku, cutting cost ~99%
ClaudeDevs · x · 2026-11-05
Anthropic's official ClaudeDevs account announced a major usage reduction for Claude Code background subagents.
- A running subagent updates its status line every 30 seconds, and each update used to re-read the whole conversation
- Now Haiku 5.5 writes the status line from short notes instead, cutting each update's cost by about 99%
Users who lean heavily on background subagents should see notably less usage-limit burn.
