OpenAI Promotes GPT-Live Outbound Telephony API to GA With Any SIP Trunk Support
juberti · x · 2026-11-05
OpenAI's GPT-Live outbound telephony API is now generally available: developers can have their Live voice agents place real phone calls through any SIP trunk provider such as Telnyx or Twilio.
- Calls support HD Voice
- Keypad events (DTMF) can be sent and received, enabling phone menus and PIN entry flows
- The shared config example creates a session with model gpt-live-1, SIP transport, digest-auth trunk credentials and caller number — a single curl call to /v1/live/sessions is enough to dial out
Voice agents can now move beyond answering calls to actively making them, opening the door to outbound support and appointment-reminder applications built directly on the official API.
