X rebuilt its web app from scratch: first post loads 2.7s vs 23.9s, built by 5 engineers plus coding agents
XFreeze · x · 2026-11-05
X has rebuilt its entire web app from scratch, with dramatic results: on a slow connection, time to first post dropped from 23.9s to 2.7s — nearly 9x faster. Signed-in users see SpaceX posts load 12.8x faster and profiles 8.2x faster.
Key changes:
- Three separate web-serving systems (logged-in users, search crawlers, logged-out visitors) consolidated into one unified app
- Content is embedded directly in the HTML, so profiles and posts render before JavaScript finishes downloading
- The first version was built in under six months by just five engineers working alongside coding agents
Logged-out X and search crawlers already run on the new architecture; the signed-in rollout is proceeding country by country.
