AMD beats guidance by just 2.9% as blowout era peaks; supply chain fungible between PCs and servers

AMD's Q3 revenue beat its guidance midpoint by only 2.9%, versus a 7% beat a year ago — the author argues the blowout acceleration has peaked as companies guide closer to what they can actually ship.

The key line from the call: Lisa Su said the supply chain is "quite fungible" across AMD's PC and data center businesses. The common read is PCs bad (client and gaming guided down >20% q/q) and servers great (2027 server revenue guided to 2x), but the same memory crunch shrinking PCs is what lets AMD shift supply into EPYC.

Combined with Intel's 10/29 claim that industry server CPU units will grow >30% in 2027 (and more if supply existed), the server double coming "mostly in units and core counts" means unit growth is share gain in a supply-capped market.
