AMD Beats on Q3 as Data Center Revenue Nearly Doubles, Shares Surge
AMD reported Q3 results on November 4 that beat across the board: total revenue of $13.4 billion (up 45% YoY), data center revenue nearly doubling to a record $8.55 billion, and adjusted EPS of $2.09. The stock jumped more than 6.63% after hours to around $516, adding roughly $50 billion in market cap, after closing up 3.65% at $483.90 during the regular session. CEO Lisa Su said growth momentum will continue as Helios racks and Venice processors ramp to volume.
Confirmed
- Data center revenue grew 97% YoY, well above the company's earlier 80% growth guidance (Ben Bajarin noted consensus estimates were too low)
- Epyc Venice began revenue shipments in Q3, with the first OEM systems expected to be on sale this quarter; management called early demand the strongest of any Epyc generation
- Five AI giants have already deployed the first Helios racks
- Q4 revenue guidance is about $17 billion, implying roughly 67% YoY growth
- AMD raised its mid-to-long-term outlook: server revenue expected to double YoY in 2027 with data center accounting for over 80% of revenue; customers have expanded their EPYC and Instinct deployment plans
Why it matters
- Ben Bajarin argues AMD has fully transformed into a data center compute company, and suspects the market's 2027 expectations for AMD are similarly conservative
- He also cautioned that the after-hours move looked partly driven by bots/algorithmic trading, so short-term price swings may not fully reflect fundamentals
- One research shop (relayed by Ben Bajarin) offered a sobering comparison: AMD's 67% growth guidance for next quarter is impressive, but Nvidia still has a 70% growth floor on a much larger base—underscoring Nvidia's dominance in AI compute
