GaiaVFX: open-source timeline-based gen-AI video editor with recast and stage consistency

NotUnofficialGoat · reddit · 2026-11-03

A developer unveiled GaiaVFX, an open-source generative-AI video editor built around an After Effects-style timeline, in development for 2.5 months as an #OpenSourceHiggsfield challenge entry. Features include timeline-scoped references controlling exactly what the model sees, tested continuity methods, a long-form-optimized Recast that cuts out whole characters before replacement to reduce source bleeding, a Stages workflow that cleans moving objects and rebuilds environments via splat fitting, and an agentic harness using the timeline as its visible whiteboard. Still unstable but released for the contest; part of ongoing world-models research.
