CMU's Open Source Program Office has launched its first Protostar Challenge: Climate Risk Intelligence, running Nov 2–13 and open to anyone. Participants build AI systems that analyze extreme weather trends and recommend climate adaptation strategies: train on data up to 2018 and forecast temperature trends for 210 US cities over 2019–25. The winning team gets $1K in Hugging Face credits, with cash prizes for CMU students.
