Matt Pocock: I optimize the environment around the model, not the model itself
mattpocockuk · x · 2026-11-03
Asked whether he'd switch tools if OpenAI dropped a banger model tomorrow, Matt Pocock laid out his workflow philosophy: as long as a model is SOTA, he doesn't care much which one it is — his job is improving the environment the model operates in (process, context, tooling). He adds that even during the rough Opus months he stayed put, calling X sentiment "a bubble", and would only jump ship when a clear winner actually emerges.
